Quote of the Moment

For those who are open to God, but in an imperfect way, the road to perfect happiness requires purification, which the Church’s faith illustrates through the doctrine of Purgatory.

Pope John Paul II

Pious Practices During Lent for the Holy Souls in Purgatory
Do Penance

Our Lord makes it very clear that penance is necessary for salvation. (Luke l3:3).

Fast for the holy souls. Fasting can stop wars!

Perform Good Works

Visit the sick, pray to end abortion. Take someone to Mass or Confession with you offering all for the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

Give Alms

Have Masses offered for the Souls in Purgatory.

Pray for Those in Purgatory

We have an obligation to pray for our relatives and for anyone we may have harmed by our sins. A Rosary before the Blessed Sacrament after Mass is extremely efficacious for the Holy Souls and can lead to the gaining of a plenary indulgence--all other conditions for this being fulfilled.

Pray for those who are in danger of dying without being in the state of Sanctifying Grace. Such prayers should be offered to Our Lady to apply as she desires, for she sees clearly who really needs the extra graces at any given time.

Go To Joseph!

St. Joseph is the Patron of a Holy Death. St. Joseph repays us generously if we come to the rescue of the suffering souls. Holy Communion offered to him for seven consecutive Sundays in honor of the Holy Souls is what pleases him most. We should be dedicated to St Joseph because: 1) He is the Foster Father of our Savior and Judge. 2) His power is more dreadful to the devils than any other Saint. 3) His death was the most singularly privileged and the happiest ever recorded in the annals of mankind. 4) As St. Joseph died in the presence and care of Jesus and Mary, St. Joseph will obtain for us that same privilege at our passage from this life to eternity. We should always pray for the dying! They become the Holy Souls!

We Must Empty Purgatory!

"The Holy Souls are eager for the prayers of the faithful which can gain indulgences for them. Their intercession is powerful. Pray unceasingly. We must empty Purgatory!"

St. Pio of Pietrelcina

Other Ways to Aid the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Join the Association of the Holy Souls. The conditions are:

· Have your name registered in the Book of the Association.

· Hear Mass once a week (Sunday suffices) for the Holy Souls.

· Pray for and promote devotion to the Holy Souls.

· Contribute once a year an offering to the Mass Fund, which enables the Association to have daily Masses offered throughout the year.

(Those who wish to join and do not have the Association in their parish can send their name, address and annual alms to: Association of the Holy Souls, Dominican Nuns of the Perpetual Rosary, Pius XII Monastery, Rua do Rosario 1, 2495 Fatima, Portugal.)

Have Masses offered for the Holy Souls.

Those who cannot get many Masses offered, assist at as many Masses as possible for this intention.

Recite the Rosary, make the Way of the Cross and/or offer alms.

Repeat short indulgenced prayers such as "Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee," or the one word "Jesus." Another powerful prayer is, "Eternal Father I offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Jesus, with all the Masses being offered all over the world this day, for the Souls in Purgatory."

The Heroic act, or offering to God in favor of the Souls in Purgatory all the works of satisfaction we practice during life and all the suffrages offered for us after death.

Masses can be offered for a donation of $5 for the souls of your beloved dead and also benefit the living in mission lands who attend these Masses. Gregorian Masses can be arranged for a donation of $150. Write to:
