According to Internet World Stats in a November 2007 poll, 380 million Internet users communicate in English. This represents 30% of the 1.2 billion people online. When you create a web site, do you want to prevent 70% of online users from accessing it? Probably not a good idea if your trying to reach as many people as possible. Holy Souls Online is more than just a web site, it’s a ministry to promote devotion to the holy souls in Purgatory. English should not be a requirement to use this web site. Those fluent in other languages but unfamiliar with English need to be able to use the information here. We recently solved a large part of this problem by adding language translation facilities courtesy of altavista's BabelFish. With this new module, you can translate any page on Holy Souls Online to Chinese (simplified), French, German, Dutch, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. This will allow about 80% of Internet users to use this web site. That still leaves 20% of users who can’t use this site, but we’re working on a solution there as well. I can't confirm the accuracy of translation to these other languages. We welcome feedback from our users who have tried the translator. |
