Catholics are fortunate because we have a community to pray for us in Purgatory, but who prays for the holy souls who were not Catholic? The Church prays in general for all souls, but prayer and sacrifice directed towards an individual in Purgatory is very beneficial to them.

Recently, our world has experienced many disasters which has resulted in a great loss of life. The earthquake and tsunami had devastating effects in Japan. The revolutions in northern Africa and the Middle East caused a great loss of life. These are not Catholic nations and the Catholic communities there are small. Many souls from these regions are now being purified in Purgatory and they need our help.

Pray for them. Don't wait to pray later. Say a short prayer now, such as a Hail Mary for them. Or pray a Requiem. If you can, spend 15 minutes by praying a rosary. If your blessed to attend daily Mass, remember the holy souls at the altar.

Don't underestimate the value of prayer. We can't comprehend the powerful effects that sincere prayer has. No one is too busy to pray. You just have to make time for it. Give some of your time today to pray for the suffering souls in Purgatory who were not Catholic.
